Healthier Eating

I found out from the doctor that I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which she said was mislabeled as Insulin Resistance - I can't digest processed sugar.  So in order to become pregnant, I had to go on a no flour no sugar diet.  I found that Paleo recipes work the best, but I still eat dairy and have some cheats now and then with bread and cereal.  I started this in July of 2013 and started walking for 30 mins everyday.  I lost 20 lbs and was able to get pregnant!  In losing the weight as well as exercising, I also feel happier and more confident in myself.

Try the following:

1. CHANGE your sugar - No MORE SPLENDA, No more aspertame kinds of sugars like Equal, Nutrasweet, etc.  Try 100% Pure maple syrup, Coconut sugar (tastes like brown sugar), or RAW honey (regular honey is full of high fructose corn syrup)

Also watch out for these other processed sugars that are hidden in foods and are not good for you

High Fructose Corn syrup
Dextrose, Glucose, Sucrose just about anything with ose at the end
Sorbitol
Matodextrin
Xylitol
Truvia/Sun Crystals

2. No hydrogenated oils - these are similar to trans fats and are not digested easily in our system.  Coffee creamers, Pillsbury products and more have hydrogenated oils and shouldn't be consumed.  This is where we get the muffin top figures from.

3. Cut out the flour.  This is hard because there is flour in almost anything, but the flour I am referring to are the grain flours that you should cut out.  I don't mind rice flour, and almond flour is a good alternative when you are baking.  Flour is processed so fine that it turns to sugar.  When you eat sugary foods, you get hungry faster and want to eat more - adding the calories.  You also crave sugar more if you eat it.  If you don't burn all the sugar off, it will eventually turn to fat.  If you can't cut it out completely, try gluten free products (they don't have wheat) or don't eat as much of it during the day.  Think of it this way - Breakfast - cereal, toast, or pancakes have flour in it.  Lunch - Sandwich - flour in the bread, and Dinner - pasta - flour in the pasta.  This is a lot of flour to consume in one day.

4. No more vegetable, canola, or man-made oils.  The best oils to use for cooking/eating are olive oil - usually for colder temperatures like dressings and such and coconut oil - for frying/cooking.  You can also use bacon grease for cooking and it comes with your bacon so it is cheaper as it is right there when you cook your bacon.  Place it in a jar and store in your refrigerator.

5. Juices/Soft drinks/Power drinks.  These are made with so much sugar and additives that it does more harm than good.  Stop drinking the soft drinks and power drinks and drink water or homemade/organic juices

6. Do eat healthy fats!  Yes, fats.  Nuts and seeds (different from legumes which is a peanut),  avocados, wild caught fish, coconut oil or butter, and even animal fat is ok, but in moderation.  Healthy fats help our brains function (it is mainly made of fat) and has been known to reduce signs of Alzheimer's and dementia.  Eating healthy fats tells your body that you have fat and there is no need to store it.  Despite studies made years ago, eating healthy fats should not raise your cholesterol, but keep it at a normal rate.  Healthy fats also keep you from getting hungry in between meals.  Low Fat or Non Fat items are a no no as the food product has been tampered with so much in order to get the calories and fat level down, that the manufacturers have to add vitamins and nutrients to the product (this is not natural and doesn't get absorbed into the body as it should if it were not tampered).

7.  Eat protein, but watch how much.  The amount of protein should be about the size of your hand.  If your body doesn't use up all the protein you ingest, it will turn to sugar and can store in your body where you don't want it.

8. Eat plenty of herbs and spices.  There are many medicinal herbs and spices that not only flavor your food, but help your body heal and feel better.
